Gnomon Gallery showOPENING RECEPTION this SATURDAY, MARCH 6TH 2010 FROM 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM
I've been a busy bee making art for the group show called "Unleashed:The art of Naughtydog" It is a group of us from work that are putting in our own personal non-videogame art.
I have been taking a sculpture workshop on Monday nights for months now and put in two pieces that I finally finished. One is for the Haiti Relief fund and the other is a response to my life spent behind a computer that is kind of tongue-in-cheek. Hope you like. -
Comic Conlolly asked DanLuVisiArt, Stardrunk and me to be at the dA booth in artist alley this weekend at Comic Con. I usually make it out to Comic Con every year but have never been at the other side of the table. This is really cool and will be good for me to learn to be more vocal here on dA. I have always stayed in the sidelines, more of a lurker. I have been a professional videogame artist for 7 years and am always scouting dA for talent. I love when I can hook up a talented artist with a job that fits them. There are so many wonderful artists on dA, it leads me to wonder- Why me?

They put together events all over L.A. for artist. They usually have live music, costumes and create an entire themed atmosphere. This week Friday it's Tiki Warrior 10pm to 2am in Venice California on Washington street. I think it's a fantastic idea and if your city doesn't have one it is really easy to set up. I know because I started one myself at my work. I call the model she comes to pose and all the artist drawing just pool there money together. We only have a stereo and a light on a stand but you could make it more if you wanted.Quick gesture poses also really help you loosen up. Which is something a tight-ass perfectionist like me really needs. I have real difficulty just sketching something quick or even typing a quick journal without wanting to go over and over it. You would never guess by my journal entries that I'm a D.A. addict and am on here everyday...but I am...I'm addicted.
WhirlwindIf I typed it all up it would be as long as one also so, I'm going to have to summarize some life and death moments to prevent any "to long, didn't read" responses. I hope it doesn't seem too callous.
Ten days ago my father passed away suddenly.I flew from L.A. to Wisconsin to meet my Uncle and sister to drive up to Michigan for the funeral. We wanted to console our poor grandmother,my father was the third son she has lost to alcoholism. The next day we drove back to Wisconsin spent time with old friends.
On the flight back home,my sister and I talked of many things including weddings, family and funerals. I never had wanted to get married. I felt it was a sham. The person you marry today might be completely different in a few years. I believe in living one day at a time. My boyfriend of 6 years wanted to get married, I said it is archaic and unnecessary. I
It's outIt took two and a half years to make this videogame.I was lucky enough to join the development team at Naughtydog seven months ago. The game is expansive, fun and beautiful. It does not have a ton of press behind it like Halo but people who have played it so far have really enjoyed it. I only had a very small part in making it happen. I did textures for props and background environments for two levels. I also did some play testing. Now that it is out, I get to post some of my work. No photos were use in the creating these textures. Textures were painted in z-brush and photoshop. I hope the environments seem inviting and that you might want to run around and find some treasures in them(while fighting off pirates). Here is another link if you are interested in more about the game. If not just look at the pretty pictureshttp://www.deeko.com/ps3/reviewDetail.asp?id=938
Now I finally have time to make some more of my own art. Hooray!
JugglingI sees the peoples- they be juggling they're time all professional like. Me? Not so much.I started working a new job, moved to Santa Monica and am taking sculpture class from this awesome artist : http://www.schellstudio.com/. It's hard to believe it's been four months since my last Confession. I will say five hail Mary's than pick up some kick ass comics at Comic Con this Weekend. Whooot! Work is going good but a whole hella stressful. That is what happens when 6 months of work on a videogame is trying to be smooshed into 3 months. Not much time for personal art right now but soon there will be scary sculptures from the class. I have some naughty lady drawings I could scan from the Hades drawing group I used to go to but I'm kind of depressed about that whole thing. There was this awesome hidden burlesque figure drawing gathering that would happen Tuesday night downtown L.A. on 6th street. It would take place from 9pm until 2am. There was a bar and d.j.s and people would hol
testing, testing, read all about itIt's for a wonderful game company in Santa Monica called Naughty Dog. They hired me on as an environmental texture artist starting next week for the game: Uncharted: Drakes Fortune.
If you are looking for work as an artist, the video game industry is growing exponentially but companies are also having more and more requirements to get your foot in the door. Besides having a nice demo reel or website, you have to take a test that requires a week of doing artwork for free before you even get an interview.
I was lucky and only did two test before I got an interview but I heard of people doing 7 before getting to see an actual person. That is 7 weeks of working for free living off noodles. If you do get an interview it is usually 2-3 hours long with 4-5 people asking you technical goo and possibly preform a task in front of them. Talk about performance anxiety ---- Yowsa!
Still it is all worth it if you love making art for a living. Painti
New websiteI thought the best way to show my work to potential employers would be to get a website up and running. It was the first time I ever made one pretty much on my own. http://www.monkeyfishfrog.com/index.html
The domain name is very silly. It is taken from a South Park episode making fun of the evolution debate. I thought it was funny at the time I bought the domain and now I think it will just be- "What is your website again?" It's monkey fish frog man, monkey fishfrog--err
Labor painsJob hunting stinks. I like doing the work, I just hate selling myself and knocking on employers doors, showing them my private arts. It is as hard as a cat trying to bury a turd on a marble floor. I've been beefing up my portfolio with more concepts and environments. So bring on the feedback ...any comments to help me improve are welcomed (and if you have any info on jobs in the l.a. area *wink*wink*).

The 'FNAF Sister Location' Anti-Hate RantOK, so everyone should have seen Scott's new teaser by now.
I was not going to write about this originally (so forgive me for rushing this journal), since I figured that literally everyone knows about the news by now, but the way people are announcing it and reacting to it disturbs me. I thought we were better than this, but I guess not.
Literally everywhere I go today, everyone I've seen is spamming memes like and saying that Scott is milking the series and beating a dead horse. Even people who have "left" the FNAF fandom and have decided to pop back in just to put in their discouraging, even hating, opinions. It's so bad, that I feel people are hating JUST because it has become cool to hate, as some kind of herd mentality.
Well guess what? It doesn't matter what anyone thinks! Scott is clearly going to do what Scott is going to do! The amount of hate th

Hey guys. I've noticed there's been some confusion with the way Quests work so I have included a Quests Guidelines on the group's front page that answers some of the FAQs. If you have any others that are not answered there feel free to comment on the stash.
The most important thing is that collaborators must each post their own redeem comment in the bank thread. This makes things more clear cut for our bankers and also eliminates the issue of which collaborator posts the comment for the rewards since it's done individually now. If your quest was already redeemed, don't worry about it but if it hasn't please make sure all collaborators post their own redeem comment. Remember this is only in the case of item or TT rewards, you do not need to redeem quests that only have an HP bonus.
Also, please, please include which tokos are featured in your quest in the piece's description, especially on literature.
